12 Days of Pumpkin ~ Pumpkin Streusel Muffins
These are Stephanie’s Fabulous Pumpkin Muffins. Girlie has dubbed them “Never Go Back Pumpkin Muffins” meaning to commercialized versions. I’m a sucker for mounding muffin tops.. and these muffins are worth their weight. Absolutely delightful! The only thing I changed was 1/4 tsp nutmeg for the pumpkin pie spice. The camera couldn’t capture what the eye see’s, with marbled orange and beige.. truly an eating experience. This pumpkin muffin recipe is a true keeper. Thanks Stephanie. … Read entire article »

Best Blog Background Sound I’ve ever heard
I’m very anti blog background sound. I, usually, surf, with my sound muted. I love music. I just don’t love being scared silly, surprised, or even offended by someone elses different choices.. so I choose to avoid it. I had one blog that friends had loved the piano self-started background sound.. but that was an exception to my rule of background sound. Now, today, I happened on a site, browsing for digital scrapbook paper, and I started to hear birds.. and it started so subtly, that I thought they were outside my window, and not on my speakers! Here, you listen. Doesn’t it make you feel a little warmer? I think I’m already ready for Spring. … Read entire article »

I’ve been blogging five years now! Amazing..
I began blogging in 2005. It took me a little thought to think of that date. (Luckily its programmed in the html of the widget.) I never would have thought five years and three laptops later, I’d be at the beginning of a new blogging life. The big blog hack and crash, of 2010, has had its toll on my patience and some days its hard to remember all the hundreds of posts are not here, anymore. I’ll continue to dig through the back doors, and bring forward some of those lost treasures. As the holidays are in full swing around us, I almost refuse to leave my house, to sit in traffic or wait in any lines. IF I can’t have it easily, I won’t have it at all! I’m thankful for … Read entire article »

Serrapeptase Lowered my Cholesterol 32 points!!
Image via Wikipedia Its strange to write about a topic that isn’t new to my blog, but is new because its lost somewhere in the crashed blogs. I first ran into the name “Serrapeptase” when researching for natural remedies for sinus troubles/infections. Serrapeptase, in case you aren’t aware, is the enzyme silk worms use to get out of (dissolve) the cocoon. I tried several different products and found some amazing relief from the particular brand called Doctor’s Best. Each coated tablet is 40,000 Units, which is really foreign greek, to me. I’m just the messenger. :) It is coated so it won’t dissolve in your stomach, but wait to get to your intestines to work. If you eat with it, it will work on dissolving the food you eat with it, instead of … Read entire article »

The new form of DeadBeat Parents..
I’ve been wanting to blog about this subject for over a year but it was hard for me to consider that I really might tick some people off by what I’m going to say. Wednesday, I pulled into CVS, next to a car that was running, with rather loud music playing. The ONLY real problem I had about this is there was a child in the back seat, by himself. I want to say he was five or six.. but what is wrong with people? You can’t just leave them to run in and get something at a pharmacy. I’ve, recently encountered a worse situation, outside of Blockbuster and BB’s attitude about the “problem not being their problem” pissed me off even more. Both of these times I didn’t have … Read entire article »

30 Days of Truth.. Day 23 → Something you wish you had done in your life.
I wish I would have continued my education when I still had more brain cells than I do today. Its been really hard going back to school at 41. I’m a learning coach to a high school student, too. And forget about all my business responsibilities. I’m tired all the time and I’m hoping this lessens as I make more hemaglobin and ferritin, since the IV infusion, last week. I have hope. I just have a lot of reading to do and my comprehension isn’t as good, today, as it was when I was 18. I should have figured out financial aid way back when. … Read entire article »

30 Days of Truth.. Day 17 → A book you’ve read that changed your views on something.
I read a lot of books.. but hands down this would have to be Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. Sarah has taught me how to care about me, again. She has given me hope that I’m okay and that its okay to take time for myself, too. The book teaches you how to have a toy box, a discovery journal, a comfort drawer full of wrapped gifts to yourself, for those days that don’t end. A Pamper drawer. It makes me look at jewel toned tissue paper, when I’m in the store. Silly, I know. But that’s what I love about this book. Its serious and yet fun. I gift it regularly. I, especially love the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, that is designed to … Read entire article »

30 Days of Truth.. Day 15 → Something or someone you couldn’t live without, because you’ve tried living without it.
Can I say God? I have this love/hate relationship with organized religion. I have a very low tolerance for hypocritical people. I don’t want to be around people who ever act like they are better than I am. I don’t want to leave church, in tears, for the rest of my Sunday. That doesn’t seem very spiritual, to me, and its certainly not savoring any type of Sabbath. With that said, I do believe in God. I could never go live in an Ashram, like Elizabeth Gilbert, in Eat, Pray, Love, mostly because I’m too disabled to spend so much time on the floor, on my knees, or in solitude. I find it hard to meditate, too. My mind wanders and then I feel guilty. Religion is full of feeling guilty and that disturbs me. I … Read entire article »

30 Days of Truth.. Day 13 → A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough a** days. (write a letter.)
This challenge is very difficult for me because I believe Music is Life. Every room in a home deserves a different genre.. just as every mood does. There isn’t much, in the music industry that I don’t appreciate on some level. I could write Colin Raye about “Love Me” getting me through my grandmother’s death and all the major changes in my life, that had to happen, in 1991. I could write to Alabama about how several of there songs built me into who I am today, but I think that would freak my heart out, too much. I could write to Reba McEntire, because my world has evolved through some of her songs. I could write to Tanya Tucker about “Strong Enough to Bend.” Or to Steve Wariner about “The Weekend.” but … Read entire article »

10 Reasons why I dropped English 101 from this Semester’s schedule
1. I’m not well. I need some procedures and needed to lighten my fully loaded schedule. 2. I need more time to study for other tests and assignments. 3. I wasn’t prepared for academic writing after x amount of years out of it. 4. Now I can read the handbook and learn MLA process before I sign up for English 101 in the future. 5. I can read things I enjoy again. 6. I can spend more time monetizing this blog. 7. I can write more freely. 8. I’m amazingly relieved of a ton of stress. 9. I can be a better learning coach for my homeschooled daughter. 10. I can have more time to seek out the medical specialists that I need to get stronger before jumping into the fire again. Overall, I’m sharing this because I don’t feel … Read entire article »

Coming home from North Carolina, I saw “Ikea Blvd” and it was all over
Ikea. I know I have a picture in my phone. I so heart Ikea. I had a mission. I needed a cutting board and I did want to see all the cutting boards that they had.. which took some juggling. They are in two different departments. I found my treasured wooden cutting board, to go with my “almost killed us” Kohl’s knifes. I even found the oil to maintain it. And a sharpening ceramic thingamagic. We also found a cheap pan for crepes, like Alton Brown described, and some tiny clear dishes for herbs in upcoming recipe photos, when I can cook again. Good stuff. Its probably a good thing that Ikea is in North Carolina and that there are no bags so you must carry your items out, yourself.. because this is shopping … Read entire article »

Brain Overload
I can’t imagine why my brain is on overload. I have one camp and two conferences swimming up in there, that need to be blogged about. I’m a full-time student. I’ve met some fantastic people, in the last few weeks. Have you ever been in a meeting and felt you knew a total stranger, before? I was in a panel discussion sesssion, at #convergesouth, in greensboro and I just felt I knew this guy on the panel. I don’t know why I felt I knew him. He mentioned Silicon Valley. Okay, a Cali guy. He mentioned he worked at Yahoo. OH MY GAWD. When the panel ended, I cautiously asked, as I reached out my hand, “Ernie? Y360 Ernie?” What an amazing experience. My first blogging gigs were at Yahoo 360, until Yahoo “threw us under … Read entire article »

Apparently Kelly Clarkson got together and wrote this song about my life
Have you heard this song? I’m not going to go into details. But, this weekend, on my road trip home from conference number 2, I replayed it over-and-over until I knew where it worked in my life. I was 12 when I could have written this song. I found a duet with Reba. What could make it better? Enjoy :) Learn something, very personal, about me. Most of this doesn’t apply to my everyday since I turned 30. And now that I’m over 40, watch out. :) I’ve learned a lot about me. You’ve learned a lot about me. It doesn’t all apply. But, it shows you how far I’ve come along.. … Read entire article »

This week in college.. Eng 101 Rant
I’m disturbed. I mentioned this weeks readings, in a post, last week. The problem is I’ve read half of them. I feel like such a prude to say this. There is a time and a place to read smut, if one so wishes to, but I’m not one of those someone’s and I’m disgusted with what I’m being required to read and write about in this “contemporary readings” book. I don’t want to read about cut off penis’ in little bags, with herbs, preserved for burial with these “clean boys” in China, who didn’t need them in this life but need them in the life to come. I’m known to drop an f-bomb or three, from time to time.. but I don’t appreciate reading about it, over-and-over in my English Composition book. So, maybe the 1/2 … Read entire article »

Financial Aid Fail
I managed back to TTC, to take a number, in the Financial Aid office, again. The poor lady, behind the computer, seemed as baffled as I was, and much more polite than the lady letting me take a number, like I’m illiterate to read my file online. After consulting with another person.. come to find out, with all the FAFSA proving (30% of FAFSA’s are audited and mine was) someone failed to have me fill out an application for my loan! I’ve been waiting weeks for this loan to show up and I never filled out the application. I had to go take an entrance exam to financial aid loans and then fill out the application. Now I wait two more weeks. What a mess. How does a first-year student read … Read entire article »

Why I Wist – a peek inside me
my wists When I first found out about wists.com, I started adding fun things, to it, to give others an impression of what I like.. it was like a way to introduce me to others.. silently. I didn’t do it for gifts. I didn’t do it for the shopping aspect. I did it to share what I like, what I notice, what I see.. I didn’t really look at it as a shopping social network, because I didn’t really use it that way. Last Christmas, I streamed my wist list, here, on the blog, because I was constantly being faced with answering questions that the wist list could answer for me. And I got a camera, as a gift. Nice. Thanks family. I love you, too. But, this year, … Read entire article »

Online Course disconnections..
I miss Brick N Mortar classrooms. I feel this disconnection, in my online courses, that I can’t describe. Its like not remembering the professors names, or knowing who’s talking, when I’m reading hundreds of discussions on message boards. Last week’s essays were very religious. This week’s are full of non-English names and places I can’t pronounce. Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? by Joyce Carol Oates The Fall River Axe Murders by Angela Carter The Wild Beast by Peter Maass The Damned Human Race by Mark Twain Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell Immortality by YiyunLi It seems like I’m learning History in ENG 101, English in CPT101, and How to break my keyboard in AOT106. We won’t talk about Marketing. I still have that text, laying next to me.. more to-do’s. There is so much … Read entire article »

Getting the hang of going back to school..
I think I’m, finally, getting the hang of online courses. I do think a brick and mortar classroom would be easier. I spent most of my time, last week, trying to figure out when things are due and what’s expected. I still have no word on my Federal loans. I managed to write my first paper draft, and a couple of essays, in English Comp. I’ve been very active in the discussion boards in my marketing class. I’ve typed my heart out in keyboarding lessons and time tests. I’ve learned how to use the drop box in CPT 101. I even aced a couple of quizzes. I even managed to blog a couple of times and to curate for bliss reads, too. Let’s hope next week is as fruitful. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUIS HORWITZ ~ I … Read entire article »

Jihad doesn’t have to be a bad word
I had to write an essay about Jeffrey Goldberg’s Inside Jihad U.: The Education of a Holy Warrior, today. I pointed out that this article was written 15 months before the tragic events on September 11, 2001. I was pleased to find a copy of the article, to link you to, so you can see that it wasn’t an easy thing for me to write about, with all the current talk about the mosque at Ground Zero. In my essay, I explained that although this madrassa, and so many more, like it, do not teach terrorism, they leave the students with no rounded education to seek for anything more than being a terrorist and finding groups to join, in their hate quests. You see, I know the difference between Muslims and Extremists. I have … Read entire article »
